tanker trucks usually hold 8500 gallons of fluid and travel at an average speed of 55 to 65 mph. (depends on the state's speed limit for trucks.
sorry I don't know much about pipelines except that you probably will have to convert gallons to barrels.to compare.

Axle weight isn't all that relevant to tankers. They have an 80,000lb gross vehicle weight and the axles are enginered as "spread axles" they are on 8 ft.centers hub to hub in the rear and therefore a higher limit is acceptable on the rear axle. The tank is baffled and compartmentalized so that the axle load is legal @ 8500 gallons.

Trucks are only allowed to move 20,000 lbs per axel on the roads in the US. So to get an idea as to weight to gallons for the product (different grades of petroleum, have different weights) and then figure out the level of movement through a pipeline, you should be able to get an answer. To be truthful, if you have a pipeline available, it is much less expensive to move oil through it, than with a truck. A truck is only useful for comparitively small quantities compared to a pipeline.
