It's totally different!
Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) Is the day we remember an important battle that we won against the French when they were trying to invade our country.
Diceseis de Septiembre (September 16th) Is the anniversary of the beginning of the war to get our independence from Spain. In USA, cinco de Mayo is generally thought to be the independence day and 16 de septiembre is not very known.
In Mexico it's the other way around, on the 15th of September at midnight there are huge parties and parades and the president gives a speech on the capital. 5 de Mayo is not that big a deal and is often just a day off from work. (I'm Mexican by the way...)

Cinco de Mayo is the day the Mexicans overthrew a short French career. Mexican Independence Day is the day Mexicans received their Independence from Spain. human beings in Mexico do not truly rejoice Cinco de Mayo, perhaps in case your from Puebla, in reality contained in the U. S. does this look to take any value. a buddy once informed me it may be like if individuals celebrated the conflict of 1812.
