I have a Compaq Presario 7476. I had Win98 but I've tried to install Win2000 on it. The computer is okay, but my monitor is a Compaq B440, which is working only with the standard 16 colors. I would like to know if there is a way I can make my monitor work with this new Windows or if I need to format it back to Windows 98. If this is the case, how can I do it? Please, friends, help! Thanks.

Your monitor is not a problem.
What you are missing is the correct drivers for your video card ...that's why you get only 16 colors.

All the drivers you need for your PC are here :

The Win2000 video drivers are here :

Windows 2000 (ME or NT4) should be able to drive your monitor in the same manner that Windows 98 did.

On the Control Panel, select Display, and the Settings Tab.

If there is no setting other than 16 colors you should try to get an updated video driver from HP/Compaq.

If you must format, just enter the Windows 98 Diskette, and it should give you an option to delete a partition, just delete the one that has some used space on it. But, if you want to try setting the color quality, right click on the desktop, go to properties go to the Settings tab, and you can change the color settings from there.

When using Windows 2000, when you have your desktop displayed, right click it and select properties. Click settings, then find color quality. If it's set on 32-bit, click on it to select 16-bit and you should be set.

You need to install the correct video drivers for your b440 - or buy a new video card.

Otherwise, you can reformat it by booting to a DOS boot disk and typing FORMAT C: - but be warned - you WILL lose all your data.
