What is the simplest, most effective way to immunize my computer against a DataMiner? My browser is Mozilla Firefox. I have Filterset G plus a lot of added blocks, AdBlock Plus, PC Tools Firewall Plus, AVG, Spybot, AdAware, Spyware Blaster, and PC Tools Guardian installed. I update, clean, and scan often, but every time I run AdAware, it catches the same cookie: my first initial and last name @revsci.net (even though I have that domain set to block). It is annoying. Short of getting my own IP address or going to safemode and trying to delete files (many of which I am uncertain about their application necessity), what can I do to get rid of this cookie? Any suggestions on free blocking software or manual steps to take? Thanks.

Cookies will appear on your computer in any case. If you block some cookies automatically, you may have problems with some websites. Just obtain spyware remover and clean cokies periodically. Most often cookies are not so dangerous.

Use a different browser to block most of the spyware... Opera is possibly the best, as you can also stop images being loaded in webpages (a common way of spyware being installed). As for stopping cookies all together, its not a good idea as a lot of sites require cookies enabled. Get a good firewall, a better internet browser, and a spyware/virus scanner. If you need some free software, then ZoneAlarm for firewall, Opera for browser, Lavasoft for spyware scanner, and AVG for virus scanner, they all offer free software, but it can be tricky to find :)

There is one program out there called spyhunter, it will tell you what the registry file is, but won't delete it unless you buy the full version. But, since you seem pretty computer savvy, you can download the trial, identify the registry file and then find the file manually and delete it.

I forgot how to do it with firefox but it should be the same.
Go to your internet options, find the restricted sites list, then enter " *.revsci.net * without quotes, and that site's tracking cookies cannot download.

I reccomend download Internet Explorer 7 because FireFox is horrible at blocking spyware.
