I think the term "baseball hat" is perhaps outdated, since that's what most hats are like. The even have NASCAR ones. So really, it's just a hat now-a-days.

If you're going to ask that, you might as well ask about hockey teams, basketball, teams, beer companies, playboy, colleges, John Deere, and I've even seen arena league football.
It's because people like to wear "baseball" caps and show off team spirit...or sometimes company spirit...

Baseball players arn't the only ones that wear those hats. Thats just the name of the style of hat.
