i like some rap but some of it is stupid

I still like rap, but I'm tired of defending it. In the old days, you could make a case how Run DMC was art. How Grandmaster Flash was art. How Whodini was art.*
But nowadays rap has completely lost its effectiveness in promoting any kind of important social message. Since the early 90's it's been all about materialism, b*tches and hoes.
Of course there are your exceptions -- not all of it is bad.

I love rap. And all genres of music have some songs that are very stupid. Most people think of rap as crap but if you took the time out to listen to the words you will be surprised at message. Rap is a story and most that don't like it can't understand or relate to the story/messages being told. Don't you think its funny how Jay-z and linkin park came out with albums about the same thing just in a different form. They did not do that album together cause it would just sound good. They were shocked that they never meet but had just about the same story/message.

Some of it I like and some of it, I don't. I don't like cop-killer rap. Some rap just has a great beat to it, regardless of the words. On the other hand, "Ghetto Gospel" by Tupac is an awesome song, words and all.

well, just like any genre, some of it is going to be bad, some good. I have a good selection of rap that I listen to. minus all the gansta stuff, it's just not my style. Eminem, Jay Z, Beastie Boys, and some unique characters-british rap-very funny.

I love most rap songs... but i hate that ppl r degrateing women in their songs... like calling them whores or stupid ditzs

i hate rap, the songs just sound so alike....and there isn't a talent that you need to really need to work at...just write the song and sing it....the videos are even worse
