What's the best guage of string to use for shredding on a 24 3/4" scale electriv guitar?

Now I'm using 11,14,18,28,38,48

Thicker, thinner, just right?

It depends on what you mean by shredding. If you're down busting some leads you'll want to go as light a guage as possible (probably mediums so you don't break strings on bends and tremelo). If you're doing some deep heavy metal type riffs your's going to want to go as think as possibly comfortable for your fingers, as a heavier guage will help provide a little more bass.

Most shredders won't typically use anything above 9's or maybe 10's. Steve Vai uses I think custom 7's or 8's. I would recommend trying out a set of 9's though. I use 11's, but I mainly play jazz so I like the extra tone you get with heavier gauges.

This is a matter of preference more than anything. I prefer .0.10 on the high e which is the next smalller gage.

what you are using now is good. I prefer a little thinner though. It is your personal choice but i would go thinner.
