well, birth control pills are basically hormones right? So, I have this problem of BAD mood swings and depression as PMS and I just cry, mainly at night for 20-60 minutes for 4-5 nights straight. I think this isn't normal, but even if it is, i don't want to have to deal with it anymore. Are birth control pills a possible remedy?

You might want to talk to a doctor about this before just assuming that BCP's are the answers to your prayers. You might have something called PMDD (Pre Menstrual Dysphoric Disorder). It is WAY worse than PMS.

There is a pill on the market that helps to alleviate PMDD symptoms. Its called YAZ. Go to your doc and get a full work-up, physical and pap smear done to see if you're a candidate for this particular BCP.

You may have a hormone fluxuation going on. ... In most cases, birth control with estrogen or syn-estrogen tend to mellow the PMS symptoms down. But its best to go see your Women's doctor. They can rule out hormone fluxuation and decide whether the birth control will be your "solve-all, cure-all" pill.

Keep in mind, it sometimes takes 1 or 2 months for the birth control to take full effect on the PMS symptoms.

I would be interested to know how old you are. Really, the mood swings can depend on your age as well.

Honestly, i dont think birth control helps control emotions such as yours. you might want to check with your doctor to see if you suffer from PMDD, i think thats what its called. Its like PMS but is way more severe. and they have medication for the condition. hope i helped some.
