I had my second c-section 3 weeks ago. first one was 7 years ago. Anyways.. tried for a VBAC but didnt work- had to have a c-section and the epi didnt work so ended up with a spinal. Had really really bad bruising all over my stomach afterwards as well as inside. My question is- there is a large area right under my belly button that is still almost completely numb. Is this normal? Will it go away?

It's normal and it may never fully go away. They say the nerves can take anywhere from 3-5 years to grow back fully, if at all.

I just answered another question exactly like this one.

Anyway, it differs from woman to woman. The numbness is normal and it does go away eventually...but for some it's sooner than others.

I had a c-section 13 months ago and I still have the numbness. It's not nearly as intense as it was in the beginning, but it's still there where the incision is. And then there's the itching that no manner of scratching can ever get to! =P And I also experience the numbness more when I'm on my period.

My aunt said hers took about 4 years to completely go away. But then I have a friend whose numbness was gone after only 4 months. *shrug* Everyone is different.

I wondered the same thing after my emergency c-section two years ago. My doctor assured me that the numbness would eventually go away (and it did). The reason it takes so long is because so many nerves were severed when you were cut open. Tissue heals quickly, but nerves take a while. Hang in there, and be sure to ask about it at your check-up in a few weeks.

Yes, this is normal and can happen with any surgery. Surgery disrupts the nerves, and it can sometimes take several months for the numbness to dissipate and feeling to come back.

I had my thryoid removed about 18 months ago, and it took 3 1/2 months before my neck wasn't numb anymore. It's annoying, but normal.

That happened to me too! I would pinch at the skin and I couldn't feel a thing! My doctor said it was normal. I finally got the feeling back but it was a few months after the surgery. Congrats on your new baby!
