I started out with HTML (not a programming language, I know) and that taught me about open/close statements, then I moved on to JavaScript, then took computer programming in highschool and started on Pascal then moved to C++ and took AP CompSci and did more with C++ and started into JAVA. VisualBasic is still a top language, too, but it seems that things are going more toward object-oriented programming nowadays, which means JAVA.

It depends on how much you would be using them. Java is hard to learn but the most useful is SQL (Access). Most companies have databases built around access so a sound knowledge of SQL is always helpful

Java is probably one of the most useful. It's easy to learn and once you have the foundations of that down, you can use that to learn C++.
