I was involved in a hit-and-run. I managed to write down the license plates on time. I was wondering if I can get the name and address of the owner of the vehicle from the DMV or other sources?

screw dmv. go straight to the cops.

In your case, it sounds like you should just go to the cops. If you're not comfortable though, your insurance company should be able to research the tag number.

No, but you can give the information to the police you called after the accident as well as your insurance company, they will be very interested in the information.
