I think of how the lyrics fit into my life. I think of the innovation of the musicians. If I have the whole CD I listen to each musician and look for trademarks in their playing that make them different from other musicians. I listen to how the words and the music complement each other. I don't like listening to songs with lyrics about sadness or anger over happy music. The music has to be just as sad or angry as the lyrics. That's the problem with most pop music today. A song that makes you wanna dance could be about cursing someone and you wouldn't know about it until you read the lyrics.

Depends....
If it's a song I like- then I think about the meaning of the lyrics and the instruments being played in the background that isn't obvious.
If it's a song I don't like- then I think of why I'm listening to such music (still a mystery).

Different songs make me thing of different things.
There are many bands that I absolutely love but cannot listen to, or I'd get immediately sad since the music reminds me of something from the past - usually not good.

depends on what kind of song
if it's a typical country song, i am thinking how i can't wait till it's over, and why won't they come up with something new besides losing someone
if it's a crazy rap song, i am thinking how they could have said the same thing without the bad words
if it's a good song that i actually like, i am thinkng about the lyrics of it, and the meaning behhind it

It depends on the song. Songs remind me of alot of things. People, places and things I have done. Usually every song reminds me of some point in my life. But it is fun.

Depends on my mood...sometimes a song will come on that brings back memories of a happier time, or someone I loved, etc....
