By difference I am assuming that you are talking about not only the operating system but also the hardware.

Mac is a division of Apple (Apple Mackintosh, cute huh) and its operating system is based off from the UNIX commercial system (called OS xx). It has a reputation for being very stable but with all of the fluff and such has lost a bit of it's robustness in lue of ease of use. It is also very proprietary and you won't find any "add-ons" that are not controlled by Apple. This makes it more expensive and makes you more subject to Apple's whims. If you are just an everyday user and don't screw with your PC (personal computer, even a Mac is a PC) then this won't be much of a problem. The hardware is pretty much the same thing as the software, proprietary. In other words, don't expect to buy a cute little pink keyboard unless it is made or contracted by Apple. Oh yeah, one other bonus; OS xx is not subject to viruses like Windoze is but, contrary to popular belief can be corrupted, just not as easy.

PC's are IBM compatible and, as I have already stated, include Mac's; however I'm certain that you are talking about a Microslop PC. Glitchy, variable, less expensive, more variety. If you're fairly well off and can afford to have your laptop fixed by a pro, I would buy an Apple. If you have to have your friends or yourself fix it then get an IBM compatible with Windoze.

Hope this helps.

As a few are starting to get...a mac is a pc PERIOD. It's the same cpus, both use intel motherboards, same video cards, same memory, same harddrive, same other parts. The ONLY difference is mac has no bios chip and is forced to use mac os x (freebsd based linux). the mac is NOT faster because it's using the SAME parts. stick with the pc, either using windows or Linux.

Mac is fine. That was what I heard. I bought one, but heck, I never liked it... Sure you can browse the Internet without worry about viruses, but if viruses is all you care about, then go Mac... I also like the slim design of the Mac... But, because I am a person who likes styles and fashion, I don't think the Mac is that attractive at all. There is nothing a Mac can do that a PC cannot do, but they're a lot of things a PC can do that a Mac cannot do...

Mac VS PC in speed and performances = PC

Mac VS PC in security = Mac

Mac VS PC in games = PC

Mac VS PC in graphics = PC

Mac VS PC in software compatiblity = PC

Mac VS PC in lightweight = Mac

Mac VS PC in styles = PC

OS x Tiger VS Vista style theme = Vista

I sold my Mac. I wanted to use it more than just spread sheet.

Generally speaking, the operating system software. Macs normally run Mac OS X. The other operating system is Microsoft Windows.

Mac OS X is better for security, stability, graphics and movies.

Windows is OK for games, but crashes a lot and is very insecure (lots of viruses and all that horrible stuff). It needs lots of looking after! Defrags, special software to keep it running, etc, etc...
