I think the surprise team in the NFL next year will be the 49ers or the Redskins. Since I like the Redskins more, i'll tell you why they are gonna be the surprise team. Their defense is what really killed them last year. its a great solid defense, but it ranked 32 in the NFL last season. Next season will be different. London Fletcher in the middle gives them a solid linebacker, and with Marcus Washington and Rocky Mcintosh outside it will be a solid linebacker core.
They also got Fred Smoot in free agency. He will rival Shawn Springs for the starting position, and who ever starts that side will be a great compliment to Carlos Rogers, and the other one will be a great nickel back. Sean Taylor is also one of the best in the league, and Adam Archuleta is also a solid safety, but has cover issues.
Their defensive line also improved last season with Andre Carter.
The 6th overall pick will also be huge for them. There are a lot of good players in the draft, especially where the Redskins need a player. They will be able to take a defensive lineman or a safety, either Laron Landry to replace Archuleta, or Alan Branch or Gaines Adams. Either way, with Jason Campbell at QB and the offense they have, their great defense will carry them into the playoffs next season.

dude the 49ers, BY FAR! They barely missed the playoffs, they got tons of cap room, solved some defensive problems with the Free Agency so far, plus they have good picks in the draft. Alex Smith is developing nicely, the 49ers could be big in 2 or 3 years... Vernon Davis stays healthy, Frank Gore runs like he did last year, and Alex Smith plays good, this offense could be big... They just need a big physical wide out like say, Dwayne Jarrett *hint hint* to off set the speed... The defense holds up with Mike Lewis and Nate Clements added, and possibly Winstrom in the next couple of days, the Niners could be big...
(Just saying Winstrom would be a good veteran addition as an outside linebacker/pass rushing end like Greg Ellis for the 'Boys)

I'm from Indiana, so my fav. team is the Colts.
The "darkhorse" team this year is going to be the Jets. They're bagging several good people, PLUS they have the draft left. Then another free agent period. This offseason is looking promising to the Jets.
ALSO, the Titans will do well. Again, they have the draft and another free agent period. Vince Young is money in the bank as a second year player, and is only going to get better. I also heard something about them playing Roby more. Again, I love in Indiana and my sister goes to IU, I've got to see Roby play live. Roby is a natural athlete. Playing him more will develope him more and increase his skill. Vince passing to Roby will be a great thing to see. Don't forget about White. He is a powerful runner with GREAT speed. They'll be focusing on the defense now for the draft and the rest of the offseason.

I think that the Titans will be the big suprise team next year. If they had put Vince Young in earlier during the season they would've gone to the playoffs this year. The Titans are a force to be reckoned with and with Vince Young at the head of the team there's no telling what they'll do next year.

I think the Packers will surprise. They really improved over last season and with a year under their belts, their record number of starting rookies should be better. They need a few players, but are somewhat like the Saints in that if they get just the right ones, they can be a playoff team.

I'm from texas but with the amount of talent coming into Cleveland they can contend for a Conference title. The texans also look bad on paper but if Carr can become the player he needs to be the texans can go 10-6. The presence of Jamal Lewis alone will put the browns at 11-5.

The 49ers realistically, they almost made the playoffs last year and they made quite a splash in the offseason with free agent signings..with a maturing Alex Smith at qb and Frank Gore at rb with an upgraded D i don't see why not

I think the Packers will be the suprise team, because they only missed the playoff by one game last year, and I think they have most of their problems fixed now.
