What can I do to make the game work?

Let me ask you:
What operating system are you using?
What version of mame are you using?
What game Roms are you trying to use?
Are the roms you down loaded in the roms folder in the mame program folder?
Are you getting roms form good sources?
You do know some games also require Bios & CHD files?

check the file u downloaded the roms to, see if they are there first, they may be corrupted roms so try getting them from a different site, if that doesnt work try moving the files, some emulators need roms to be in a certain folder to play
