You could probably handle the books (I haven't read them, only checking out reviews)

Backstory - CHECK! Action - CHECK! Fun technology and good characters - CHECK! Did I mention action? CHECK! These three novels set in the Halo universe are a lot of fun and real page-turners. I recommend these to any sci-fi and/or Halo fan! Wow! These novels are fun!, March 9, 2007

I was looking for a review from a younger reader and saw two from parents of a 14 year old and a 15 year old. Both were very positive.

Almost all of the reviews said great things. Finally found one from a kid that only said something to the effect of "Great books - can't wait for the movies!" A second one agreed, loving it.

There's one that isn't too positive: With all due respect for the authors, I have to say that these stories (Stories! Not novels) seem to be written by 5th grade students. Conclusion: Don't buy if you know how to write & read properly. Otherwise you'll lose IQ points. (Another Kid's Review)

I don't see anyone mention too much about the violence, only that it is just like the game, so if you play, you'll probably be fine with this.

Great that you want to read! Keep it up! I may have to look into this for my son (or me!)

I would start reading(in order) Halo: contact Harvest--Halo- Fall of reach--Halo: flood--Halo first strike--Halo: Cole protocol--Halo: Ghosts of onyx--Grasslands. these are all excellent books, and have read them all. Fall of reach, ghosts of onyx, and Glass lands are my favorite but I suggest reading in order to follow the story line. there may be more after that., but haven't checked it out. Go and jump in and have fun!
