Why would a guy make himself so obvious?

I had a guy friend who I thought was my secret pal. He made himself so obvious. I thought he liked me or something. Or, he just wanted to do something nice for me.

Maybe he likes you or thinks highly of you.

maybe he wants to let you know that he likes you without actually telling you.
