Yes they are real, they are rare as well. The color is from a mutation called chinchilla, it is a color inhibitor. Most white lion are in zoos and they are breed for that color. The white gene is a recessive so it is masked by dominate genes it takes two recessives to make a recessive cub.

yes ,they are Albinos and in the wild do not live very long
there are some in the parks in Kenya
and i think in Kruger in South Africa ,but the rangers have to keep close watch on them because they are vulnerable because they do not have the natural camouflage of the grasslands
