People often have a bad habit of believing things that sound plausible without applying a great deal of critical thinking.

The purpose of studying fallacies is not to learn about the specific fallacious argument, but to recognize a pattern of fallacious reasoning that can be generally applied to similar errors in logic.

Once we learn to spot inconsistencies in logical arguments, we can disprove false statements or dig deeper to find their hidden truth.

Perhaps it is better to ask HOW is the study for logic and how is logic. Logic is of the need to talk, to describe, to socialize, to warn, to defend, to answer, to explain, to instruct, to deceive, to teach, to question, to hypothesize ...but not to doubt. Logic extends the spirit into new awareness and possibility, but there is danger in the new and therefor new doubt. For every advance necessitates new safe guards.

The Will is positive, the Judgment is negative.

An other possibility is self deception.
