Explain the mummification process briefly?

The body is embalmed with certain herbs that speed up the process of drying. The bodily organs are removed (heart, liver, kidneys, lungs) and placed in sacred jars. The brain is removed from the head through the nostrils: a red-hot poker is inserted through the nose and basically breaks up the brain mass into fluid that can come out of the nose and or mouth.
Sometimes the body was filled with sacred herbs and dried flowers, sometimes not.
After the body has dried out and been anointed with more oil and herbs, it is wrapped in linen and awaits burial.

If you're talking about Egyptians;
All internal organs were removed. Heart liver and lungs were put in clay jars. the brain was removed through the nasal passage using a wire with a hook on the end. The body cavity was filled with herbs and some sort of spices. they were wrapped in linen.
