Probably electricity.
It is the predecessor to so many other inventions like lights, computers, television, radio, etc.

OK kiddies, first of all, electricity is not an invention, it was a discovery. And second, scholars all over the world have answered this question with the printing press. The printing press opened up the world to the infinite amount of information previously unavailable to the common man. Printing presses made cheap, quickly reproduced books available to almost everybody. Everything that has come since, TV, Internet newspapers, etc. is just an improvement on printing.

Well, what has reached the most people and it's influence felt the most? And more importantly what do you consider an invention? Because I would say clothes or shelter but that is harder to define as an invention. Maybe the written language because it acts in so many ways to assist even more important inventions with widespread reach like the TV or computer, HTML code or the bus schedule.

The Internet- it brings together the world on one collected level- with access to the internet people in third world countries have access to the same wealth of information people living in superpowers have. It's unprecendented- no matter what time of day it is, the internet keeps people connected and informed. It's a wonder that such a recent invention has such a powerful hold on society- across the world isn't it?

It would have to be the internet:
* People could communicate with anyone in the world and obtain numerious information through online sources, e-mails, web-cameras, and able to hear each other in an instant.
* The internet help create jobs, business and people are able purchase things anytime and anywhere and this saves time and money because people can compare prices on online shopping.

the printing press. It gave people access to information in probably a grander way than the internet did. Before that, you'd have to seek out the few libraries. Before computers all we had to do was go to the library to do research.

I think electricity, because we would not have thinks such as lights, television, computers, hot water systems, microwave etc. Really there are not many people who live with out it in the modern world.

Electricity. Just imagine what would happen if our electricity supplies shut down and we had no other way of producing it. What a catastrophe it would be.
