The distance from home plate to dead center field is Sun Devil Stadium is 404 feet. A baseball diamond is a square with a distance from home plate to first base of 90 feet, How far is it from first base to dead center field?
A. 471.9 feet
B. 346.3 feet
C. 381.6 feet
D. 329.2 feet

I have tryed to do it a million differnt ways and I can not get any of the above answers! please help!!

This needs the Law of Cosines. If you draw the picture, you see a triangle with a 90 ft side, a 404 ft side, and an included angle of 45 degrees. The third side (distance from first to dead center) would be the square root of:

90^2 + 404^2 - 2(90)(404)cos 45

which is 346.26 or 346.3 feet.

draw a picture of the problem

you need to calculate where first base is first in relation to the line between home & center field..

just worked it through & got B
