I didn't give my phone number to anyone

Here is what I do:
1. I asked them to spell the company they are calling from as though I am interested.
2. I repeat the spelling back so they know I am writing it down.
3. I then inform them I have just written it down because I am on the do-not-call list and I am going to report them.
4. Usually before I can finish the sentence in #3, they have hung up.

Well, I'm not too sure if this is efficacious or not, but the most interesting way to fight telemarketing is to have some fun with them. Things like incoherant shouting or detailed descriptions of your bathroom mannerisms should do the trick. If you want to be real sophisticated, pretend that you're somebody else, like a detective, and connect the telemarketer to some bogus story, like as an acessory to the murder of the person the telemarketer is attempting to call.

First I put myself on the National Do Not Call list. That took care of 95% of the telemarketers....those few calls I get, I just hang up. Usually I screen my phone calls anyway and when the answering machine picks up, they disconnect.

Register the number with the national do not call list and, until then, my favorite tactic is/was to put on some really brain melting metal, answer the phone and lay the open line near the speaker until one of us has had enough.

Registering on the "no call list" is a good idea, but also ask the telemarketer to remove your name from their call list; most people (like my mom) hang up in anger, so they remain on the call list; while the telemarketer is required by law to remove your name, they don't always comply.

Try to get to know the telemarketer a little, if they seem like someone sexy, ask if they want to have phone sex. They always hang up on me at sometime during this process

The thing that drives the telemarketers crazy is when you put them on hold and leave them. The only way they can make money is by making a huge number of calls. If you can waste their time they will soon figure out that they are not welcome.

Same thing I use for door to door salesmen. I scream into the phone at the top of my lungs: WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT? HOW THE HELL DID YOU GET MY PHONE NUMBER? YOU EVER CALL ME AGAIN, I AM GOING TO USE A BLOWHORN IN YOUR EAR, SO TAKE ME OFF YOUR FREAKIN' LIST!!!

Colorado also takes the Do not call list very seriously, and if you are on the list, and you get called, get their info, they could be fined.

the best way is to get on the do not call list which is out there. Then if they call, you can tell them you are on the list and will report them. This has worked for me on several occasions

Caller ID, subscribing to the national do no call list, and privacy manager. Even still, some slip through!
