You must remember that during the time of the killing in the Coliseum the people of the Roman Empire were used to seeing killing. It was a part of their life. To go to the Coliseum & see this was entertainment to them. No one that they knew was being killed, they were captives from other countries, criminals, Gladiators who fought for pay, animals killing other animals & of course, Christians who were, in their minds, justly being put to death.
When Americans watch on TV, they know that it is just actors & that no one is really hurt. However, when we do see something that is real, such as WTC, we are horrified! To see the real thing on TV is not entertaining to us & we mostly don't watch it more than once, if we even see it to the end when we know it is for real. No comparison to the world of the Roman era & the Coliseum! We don't like it! That is one reason you don't see a lot of TV showing our dead in Iraq, we don't want to see it, we don't enjoy seeing real death & gore.

In Rome the killing and gore were real, whereas in America it is fake and everybody knows its fake. In Rome, as in America killing and gore are looked at as entertainment.

Probably very little. The Roman elites provided this sort of "entertainment" because that is what the people wanted to be entertained. It's like movies today. Violence is in them because that is what people want to see. If they didn't the films wouldn't make money and other concepts would be offered. It reflects more on what the people are, not what they will become.

Very little of the impact you're implying. The real effect was that it kept the masses entertained and thus more content.

Well in Rome people were actually killed & in the US it's fake. And most people in the US know that it's fake.
