we have had a mechanic ( personal friend) do all the diagnostic checks on it. Fuel pump, o2 sensor etc. etc. any ideas what it could be?!?

great answers you are correct. though when the car is sitting and you punch the acceleration it does not make this sound. Only does it make this sound when there is load bearing on the engine. HIgher RPM's is where the purring/gurgling sounds happen!

It sounds like engine "knock" or "pre-ignition" as it will only occur under load. Try switching to a high octane fuel and see if it goes away. You may have to get the timing checked as well, too much advance will also cause this....... good luck!

i own a repair shop ,and you need to check the coolant level in it,it sounds like air has gotten in to the system on it,that will cause this very same sound you said it makes,and the air bubble will have to gotten out of it,its probably nothing serious,but check everything as far as the fluids go,and make sure its full,the sound your hearing probably is air trapped right now in the heater core on it,it sounds kind of weird when they do this,but it probably not a serious thing right now,but have it all checked just to be sure,good luck i hope this helps.
