Hello.
I am from Russia. and my gfd is from Thailand and we are both legal aliens in US. recently we found out that we are expecting a baby (13 weeks). I was wondering what is the average cost of delivery of a baby in State of Virginia and could we apply for medicaid to help us. if yes what benefits we can qualify for? My gfd and me we both make around $30,000/year.
any suggestions where we can go and ask for help?

Thanks...

You will NOT get medicaid its not worth trying to apply. If you are not illegal or an US citizen you dont have any right for medicaid, it would be best to get some clinic that brings down the cost according to your income...And seeing that you make enough you will probably will have to pay everything!!!

Call around to different clinics to see what programs they have..Thats what I did and I got one for free... Im just a student and my income is very low so I didnt have to pay for anything...

Some hospitals post their prices on their website. Hospitals have different prices. I'm pretty sure that $30,000 sounds quite high to qualify for Medicaid. You have to be really poor to qualify for Medicaid - like $5,000-10,000 a year. You may not qualify for Medicaid, but there are low cost Health programs. You can find one through your County or City Health Department, and maybe an independent clinic. The mother needs pre-natal care (i.e. vitimans and stuff). It's important. There are low-cost hospitals and university hospitals. One example is MCV in Richmond is Medical College of Virginia connected with VCU Virginia Commonwealth University.

I used to live in Richmond, VA and worked as a 411 operator. If you tell me what city and county that you live in, I can find it on the web for you. I'd be glad to do it. I know where to look. Click on my picture and send me a message, or use brianq@alliancecom.net

When you search Yahoo, you need to type in your city and the word hospital and or health. Then, you need to change it to a Directory search. Above the search field, it says Web, Shopping, News, Directory, etc... It's much, much better to search that way.

Planned Parenthood is a good place to find information --although they specialize in abortions. They can also help people who are having babies.

Depends on the way the doctor and hospital set it up, how smoothly the delivery goes (any complications), what meds she has during delivery, etc. Some doctors include the cost of their services in your prenatal care package, others add it on separately at the end with the hospital bill. Call your local welfare office (social services) and they should be able to direct you to a program that can help. I live in CA, and we have Medi-cal for those who qualify. I never paid a cent with either of my two children's births. (They were uncomplicated). Your best bet to make sure that there are as few complications as possible is to make sure to get good prenatal care. The average cost here for an uncomplicated delivery ranges from $2500- $4000, including all the prenatal care. Hospitals can charge separately, so make sure to ask what their charges are. Good luck!

You should go apply at your local health department , they will be able to tell if you meet the income requirements. If you make too much they will give you share of cost insurance (this is where if the bill is over a certain amount of money then they will pay it.) You may also qualify for wic, then they will pay for the babys formula and certain things like milk and cheese and cereal and juice for the mother as well.

You need to go to the Department of Human Services. (DHS) in your town. Ask around and find out where it is at so you can try and get medicaid if you will qualitfy
