when you get a mac, you get OS X, and the ability to run windoze XP , at the same time or switching back and forth!

All PC games will run on the windoze side, and they will run better than most PCs!

Have the folks get you a macbook pro, and you can do it all!!!

Everything is better on a mac , because of OS X and the fact that it can even run windoze if you really need it!

MS Word is available for the mac, but there are better programs, and many are free or cheaper than MS Office!

As far as I know, Microsoft Office programs are compatible with Mac. At my school's computer labs they had both types of OS to use, and Mac had Word.

I think that if you want to play a lot of computer games in your spare time, then Windows has a lot more games available. If you want to do artistic stuff like editing pictures and music and videos, Mac is better. Otherwise there isn't much difference, except Macs rarely lock up or get viruses.

It depends on several factors. First, is pricing an issue? Macs tend to be more expensive than Windows computers.
But, with compatibility, Windows XP is probably your best bet. Music/pictures/movies are compatible with both Windows and Mac, but unless your school uses a lot of Macs, you'll find it easier to stick with a Windows computer. Microsoft Word IS compatible with OSX these days, though it is native to Windows.

I'd say get a Windows XP computer.

windows are far as compatibility with all program. yes mac is now compatible with word. But in my experience (i'm a college senior) many classes require that you download small applications, or certain cd's might come with your textbooks and alot of those are formatted for PC (windows) only.

So as to stay in compliance with Yahoo! "anti-spam", because I have info and intend to refer you to a man I know who can answer your question all-too-well, I will ask you to simply email me at the Yahoo! email provided in my user profile/below for contact info so you can discuss your needs with him.

He works with "older students" especially- this is why the thought came to mind when I read your posted question, but (even though I do not work for him or anything) he does own a business, so Yahoo! MAY have considered the info I have for you "spam". I chose to be on the "safe side" so as to ensure no ruffled feathers @ Carnegie-Mellon.........
