1. In oogenesis the volume of cytoplasm increases many fold due to accumulation of yolk. In spermatogenesis, converse is true as the amount of cytoplasm is diminished. This happens particularly during spermiogenesis.
2.In oogenesis pachytene stage is extended. It is called dictyotene. In this extended stage vitellogenesis occurs. This is not the case in spermatogenesis.
3. Oogenesis occurs in the ovary. Spermatognesis occurs in the testis, in the seminferous tubules.
4. In oogenesis, the divided cells are uneven in size, one is considerably smaller and is called polar body.In spermatognesis, both the divided cells are of equal size.
5. In oogeneis, one round of meiosis gives rise to one ovum. In spermatogesis, one round of meiosis gives rise of four spermatids, which in turn are metamorphosed into four sperms(spermatozoa).

Oogenesis is in females, spermatogenesis is in males.
Oogenesis is prompted by hormone cycles, spermatogenesis happens continuously.
