Compass help.?

In a compass, the chinese magnetized the needle by rubbing it against lodestone. So, if they do that, does the needle ever stop being magnetic?

Oh, and can you add a source (any source) that would have the information. Thanks. And how do you make a needle non-magnetic anymore?

magnetic energy slowly deteriorates, so yes.

it will never stop working on it's own but you can make it stop.
