"American culture"- HA, HA, HA, HA, HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2007-03-08 12:24:46 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 1 0

I am an American and I think our culture seems quite exploitive. I mean, I can't go anywhere without hearing every single detail of some celebrity's life. I have also come to realize that American culture is a culture that has no set culture. It seems that we borrow from everyone elses culture, which is quite alright by me. I mean the fortune cookie didn't originate in China. It originated in California- I guess from the Chinese that were living in California. I have never been to the UK so I couldn't really say which is more decadent. but I think it would be great to see the UK, if I could afford it as I'm always poor. I do think that there are nice things here in America. I love having hot water when I bathe. Some countries don't have that luxury and almost everyone here has hot water, something I will never take for granted. And I like how laws protect us such as neglegence laws. Like if someone here got hit by a bus, that bus driver is responsible. Other counties don't have laws that protect them and if they get hit by a bus, the bus driver is not held responsible and nothing is done about it. However I don't like how Bush and his administration think they can treat Americans like we're stupid. I never liked the guy from the beginning. But that doesn't make me anti american, because I like my country and the benefits it offers to the people. Every country has its good and bad qualities.

Let me see... the UK no longer goes to church, nor do its young people get married any more. They have become athiests and have "partners." I would call that more decadent than the US.

Some might call the crass consumerism promoted by retailers as decadent, but only if you actually buy into that stuff. I don't need a 47" plasma television or a flip down DVD player in my car or a cell phone that does everything but make my coffee. Who cares if we know if Paris Hilton had a zit yesterday. Don't listen to it. Also, stop blaming the President for your own personal problems.

On the other hand, a culture that turns away from traditions (such as the institution of marriage) and God is decadent.

Of course this is my opinion, and opinions are like recta in that everyone has them.

Do you actually have a list of all the culture classified as decadent for both countries? I don't, so no way to compare. What would you say is a decadent culture anyway?

"Everything is bigger in America..." Besides bigger cars, refridgerators, etc. I don't think America is more decadent than the UK. I lived in the UK for a year, and it was pretty similiar. Pretty similiar, except the UK had a much older culture lol.

In an innocent way, yes... If you have been to the states, you will have noticed how their news is 'adapted' to accommodate their politics. Free speech is not as free as they really are brainwashed to believe. From a UK residient - I was horrified to see how news was adapted to be an 'all is well' broadcast. I may as well say my goodbye's now because the FBI may well be on their way to take me out..... ta ta from Derbyshire.
