I just finished a 14 day course of Levaquin (antibiotic) and my husband and I had unprotected sex. I am on Necon birth control. I know there is always the possibiltiy I can get pregnant because antibiotics lower the efficacy of birth control. I just need to know if my last period was feb 23rd. when can I take a pregnancy test to find out...is it the standard until a missed period (or the newer tests 5 days sooner)? or can it be sooner with the antibiotics messing up my cycle?

They tested it and found out that, contrary to previous belief, antibiotics don't actually affect birth control pills. The only one that does is rifampin. They just learned this within the last 6 months sometime, they posted signs about it all around my university's health clinic!
You can still get pregnant by accident regardless of antibiotics of course.

I have a 13 year old daughter that is proof that you can definately get pregnant using birth control and antibiotics.
If I were you, I wouldn't worry too much about it unless you miss a period. Newer pregnancy tests show before a missed period, but I have had one give a false negative, so I'd wait until a day or so after a missed period before taking one.

Take a home pregnancy test the first day you miss a period. Get the answer sooner so you can relax and know the outcome.

Your antibiotics should have come with the warning on the bottle that it renders the birth control useless. I would wait to see if you are gonna get your period though just in case.

I wouldn't loose any sleep over it, if you miss your next period, then take a test. I was taking amoxicyllin and on birthcontrol. My (oops) son just turned 18. They didn't know as much about the reactions between antibiotics and birthcontrol then.

doesnt birth control,control ur body from becoming pregant,so how ru gonna get pregant if ur on birth control get of it and get pregant
