what would you say to a coworker who you care for as a friend but turned around not once but twice and said something that judged your weight!? i didn't want to blow up in his face or anything so i just let him know it was uncalled for and now he's pissed at me for it. i don't understand, help!

i did comment in private and i emailed him because we don't talk a whole lot outside of work, and since thats the only way to communicate thats how i did it!

Just give him some space. It was not okay for him to make comments about your weight. However, how did you let him know his comments were uncalled for? Was it in front of other people? He is probably embarrassed - no matter how you did it - by the whole situation and using anger to cover it. Let him cool down and just observe his behavior. If he continues to blow you off then he probably is not the best person to be friends with. No matter what happens, remember he had no right to comment on your weight.
