Giving up freedom for security only causes tyranny. It is the oldest trick in the book so why are we giving up our freedoms.

Well Luke it's because the people don't know what a tyranny is. They don't know what security is.
To paraphrase Adolf Hitler.....if the people weren't so stupid we could never have formed a government.
Now this isn't an answer because the real answer is a book long. But this is an indication as to why you are giving up your freedoms.

Because most Americans take their freedoms so much for granted that they don't even realize that Bush is slowly but surely taking them away. Take away American Idol and Americans will be in an uproar. Take away some of their freedoms & they could care less. they look at things like the Patriot act & since if sounds good they think it must be good meanwhile it is taking away many of their freedoms.

Another great one, Luke. You put it so well. Take the Great Depression for example. Do people realize that the changes made in that decade brought us closer to socialism than any other decade in American history, before or since? I'll take the risk of danger over the loss of my freedoms, any day!

Yes, I knew that. So does anyone who has studied history.

We're giving up our freedoms -- actually, they are being taken from us despite a few objections -- because so many people in this country are afraid of the boogeyman that they are turning to tyranny in the name of security to protect them.

And for those who ask what rights I've personally lost -- every single right that has been taken away by Congress was mine. Just because I've never needed to exercise them doesn't make them any less my rights. And just because you haven't needed them yet doesn't make them any less yours.

In honor of Pastor Martin Niemöller:

First they came for the 6th Amendment, but I hadn't been accused of a crime, so I didn't object to denial of counsel.

Then they came for the 4th Amendment, but I wasn't talking to anyone overseas, so they wouldn't be monitoring me.

Then they came for the rest of the 4th Amendment, but I only called my mother, so there was nothing suspicious in my phone records.

Then they came for the 1st Amendment, but I never associated with criminals, so I didn't worry about being convicted purely based on what other people might do.

Then they came for the 14th Amendment, but I never really understood the rules for Due Process (and wasn't allowed an attorney), so I didn't object.

Then they came for the rest of the 1st Amendment, but I never told anyone about what the government was doing, so again I remained silent.

Then they came for the 5th Amendment, ...... and I no longer had the right to remain silent.

I'm not giving, they are taking .not the same thing

I believe that there are more instances of abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachment of those in power than by violent usurpation's....James Madison

Because we're being bombarded by propaganda that is telling us that we should be afraid of the Middle East. People are beginning to believe it, and think that the government can ensure our safety only if we give up some of our rights.

I am not.

If flying takes something from me, I will drive.
If going into a Court Room takes something from me, I will comply.
I am smart enough to let Security take its place and smart enough to know when it is too much!

I hope that other Americans feel the same way and know how to protect their rights and our Country at the same time.

So, please elaborate what freedoms have been stripped from us? I can still buy a gun and ammunition for it. I can still cruise the internet. I can still send letters to my mom, and be confident the thing will get there on time. I don't follow what you mean. Please explain.
