This is for school so I need some help. Examples: Lord of the Rings, Spider-Man, X-Men, Shrek, Nemo, Harry Potter, The Ring, or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Im looking for a movie that brough forth a new/revived genre or started a major trend that is obvious.

Shrek has to be the most influential movie of the ones you listed. Since the smash success of that one, 2d animation has become extinct in theaters, and celebrity voice acting is standard for every animated movie. Second, X-Men and Spider-Man probably tie for being major influences in the movie industry. Every year now, we can expect one or two new superhero blockbusters to make it to the silver screen.

If you look at movies with comic book hero movies, they were campy or so surreal and unbelievable. Then Spiderman came along and brought a more believable character to the screen, and then a bunch of movies based on comic books came forth, even the rebirth of Superman. So Spiderman should be considered the rebirth of the Comic Book genre. Since Spiderman: X-men, Batman Begins, Hulk, Daredevil, Electra, Catwoman, Ghost Rider, along with the direct to video animations of two Avengers movies, Iron Man, and coming soon Doctor Strange.

Shrek helped push CG out of the realm of a Disney/Pixar only format. But Toy Story would be the one that started the format. You can now see that 2-D animation is very quickly dieing even on TV.

I would go with one of the following:

-Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon because it basically brough martial arts back to the big screen with vivid imagery and special effects, and most importantly all asian casts, showing it could be profitable to make such fils and release them here. Without it, Jet Li would have been very bored for the past four to five years.

- Big Momma's House, which spawned series of african american men as older african american females and a general acceptance of those men playing the roles of women. Some might say the Nutty Professor, but that's not really true because Eddie played most of the roles in that movie.

Wow, 2000 was actually a while ago..so many movies. I remember speaking about Napolean Dynamite in my TV class at college. Lots of T shirts, quotes kids say now, lunch boxes, etc. Lots of people repeating quotes. "Make you self a dag case a dilla" or, "Whatever I FEEL like doing...goooosh!!"

Lord of the Rings is up there too. Harry potter series. Hard question

'The Ring' started the 'let's turn this Japanese movie into an American movie' craze that continued with 'The Grudge' & Pulse & others.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre led the way for the overrun of 'horror remakes' that have since followed.

For it's impact on filmaking it'd have to be The Matrix...

Changed visual technology and storytelling almost instantly. "Matrix-like" special effects were showing up in commercials that summer and visually you've seen a style change in many genres that can be traced back to the Cyber-punk styles of the Matrix...

I don't know when The Matrix came out, but I'd say that's up there with the visuals. Possibly also- Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

got to be Lord of the Rings. The advancements in special effects, cgi, alone make it a ground breaker.
