I think without question that Federer is the best player of all time.

However, you can't call him the greatest yet. There are 3 guys, Pete Sampras, Rod Laver, and Bjorn Borg, who did some amazing things in their careers. If Federer keeps up his level for another few years, he'll surpass these 3 guys, but until then, he has to come in at #4. I'd put Andre Agassi at #5.

As for the women, it definitely comes down to Steffi Graf vs Martina Navratilova. I'd have to go with Martina. Steffi has more singles titles, but Navratilova was just winning doubles titles last year and she's almost 50. That's amazing.

Before open tennis I would say Don Budge and Suzanne Lenglen. Since open tennis I would put Martina Navratilova as the best ever. On the men's side for me at the moment it's a tie between Pete Sampras, Rod Laver and Roger Federer.

For me, the greatest male tennis player is Pete Sampras not because of winning 14 grand slams but because of his attitude to the game--he has great respect to other players. He's not proud and haughty. The greatest female tennis player for me is Steffi Graf. She has the attitude of winning...at least that's what I think...

Federer for mens. Sampras was great on grass, but horrible on clay. And he was not as elite on hard court. Federer is gonna win 20+ grandslam titles (vs 14 for Pete) plus he dominates grass AND hard and just recently reaced the french open final on clay. He should win the french sooner or later, maybe a few times now that Nadal is doing bad.

I ain't old or anything so I only know living pros so i choose Freder (even though I like Roddick) and one of the Williams (just because I didn't watch tennis until last year during the Austrailian Open)
