I usually charge $50/hour but I know that's really low compared to the high-tech guys.

That is often sold per page, so it depends how complex they want it. I suggest you build it, then ask them what they are willing to pay. You will learn something and get a good start on a good reputation, concerning yourself with service above how much you make. You will be rewarded in the end with that attitude.

Earlier this week, I saw a Yahoo! Answer, someone said she/he charged "$35 to $60 per hour depending on the complexity". I used to charge $30 per hour, just because it was an old habit. I'm thinking of giving myself a cost-of-living adjustment.

something like $20 a hour. If there is really complicated and high-tech stuff, then charge more depending on how they want the page to look and the pics/videos.

Some businesses cost $100CAD per page. Some are like $50CAD. Depends on how much expertise you are bringing to the table, and how hard the work will be. Another big factor is how much they are willing to pay you to do the job.

tell them that you will beat thier best price quoted by 10%. Have them get quotes from local companies, then, make sure you see the lowest quote, and beat it by 10%.
