I'm okay with the whole check out my ears eyes, nose whatever, but when I looked at everything that needed to be checked off for college, I saw "Breasts" and "Genitilia" on there. Please someone tell me that a urine sample or something will take care of these.
_____ ****Is this guy doctor going to have to touch me inappropriately?****_____
My mother won't let me request a female doctor. She said "get over it." Please prepare me! I'm freaking out about how humiliated I'll feel. I don't know if I can let some strange doctor touch me like that.

How is a breast and genitilia exam done?

Ok since nobody wants to tell you exactly what the genitalia exam is...they are going to have you remove all of your clothes and put on a paper gown. The doctor will then do what's called a pap smear. (a nurse must be present in the room if your doctor is male) You will be asked to lay back and put your legs in stirrups (little "pedals" on either side of the foot of bed) and spread your legs. He will then insert a speculum and gently open your vagina. He will then use a large Q-tip to take a swab of your cervix. He then will use a bit of lubricant on his fingers and insert them to feel your cervix. (he will remove the speculum before that) He may also insert one finger in your bottom to feel the underside of your cervix. He will most likely do a breast exam as well. (Which is just where he will go in little circles with the tips of his fingers around your breasts to see if there are any lumps under the skin. It's completely painless.)

I know by now you are panicking. Please don't. It's not as bad as it sounds...ok it is kind of embarrassing. While it doesn't hurt, it can be just a little uncomfortable especially if this is your first time. Just don't tense up and breathe deep and it will be over before you know it. All women have to go through this. It's just a part of life and you will need to do this every year from now on. If you really feel uncomfortable with a male doctor, then tell them when you get there. If you are of age to go to college then you are old enough to make that decision. It's not a matter of "growing up", it's a matter of personal choice. You do what is comfortable for YOU, not what's comfortable for other people. Good luck to you sweetie.

And what "Mixmaster" said is not true.

I used to feel exactly like you, till I had my kids, and when your in excruciating pain humility goes out the window. However having many physical exams in my lifetime I can tell you exactly what they'll do. A nurse will take your weight and blood pressure, then she'll ask about your last menstrual period, and if your on any meds. General stuff. Then she'll take you to your room and instruct you to undress from head to toe after she leaves. You'll put on a paper shirt and paper wrap that's for your bottom, it's the size of a beach towel. When the doctor comes in he'll check your ears, and throat and everything, then legally he has to call for the nurse to come before he checks your breasts or does the pelvic exam. Alot of times my doctors will do the breast exam first and they go very fast, they apply brief pressure and it's over. The pelvic exam is never fun, but your legs will be put in a holster and they'll put a bright light down there and have to insert a speculum that will open the way for the internal exam, it looks like a duck bill that opens about 3 inches, then they insert a long Q tip to test if you have cervical cancer, that doesnt feel pleasant, but it doesnt really hurt. It won't be as bad as you think. Hope this helps.

If it is a regular physical, normally only a pap smear will be done for the genital area. What they do is put a clamp to hold your uterus apart and get the sample they need. As for the breasts, they will feel around for breast cancer. Although, if you check your breasts monthly for new lumps, they may skip this part. Urine samples will definitely not check either of those. Good luck.

genitilia is usually for male however you will probably have to have a breast exam, unless you have had a mammogram done recently. the doc will check for cyst around the sternum and axial areas. but then again they sometimes have the RN do the breast exams.
