Colder. The Earth's atmosphere contains greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide and water vapor, along with the major gases, oxygen and nitrogen, that could be considered greenhouse gases. You see, greenhouse gases are not as bad as they are cracked up to be.

If the earth had no atmosphere, it would be hotter in sunlight, and colder on the dark side. The atmosphere acts as a blanket, insulating the earth and moderating temperature changes.

Oh, and it has nothing to do with either the greenhouse effect or the ozone layer.

It would be extrememly hotter during the day, due to the radiation coming from the Sun. If there was no atmosphere, life would be impossible to have on Earth as we know it. In fact, the only atmosphere we had about six billion years ago was mainly made of only hydrogen and helium.

At night, (since we're not facing the Sun at night) the temperature drops to a very low, freezing temparatures. WAY below zero degrees. Like I said before, without an atmosphere, nothing, not even bacteria, could possibly live. It would kind of be like what it looks like on the Moon.

the holes in the o-zone layer are doing what? greenhouse effect. So that means the earth is getting hotter or colder? So therefore, if we did not have the atmosphere it would do what? Think it through. Hint. What is the biggest complaint about the polar ice caps due to the holes in the o-zone. Are they getting bigger and staying colder? or are they melting from getting hotter?

Colder in the shadow, hotter in the sunlight...think about the moon: It is 200 on the light side and -200 on the dark side.
