Concrete is sold by the square yard.

If you are planning on pouring a slab here it is.
3 1/2" thick a yard of cement will cover 92 square ft.
4" thick it will cover 86 square ft.
So when figuring how much concrete I will need, I do the width times length, divided by 92 or 86 depending on the thickness. If it is a larger slap then I add about a 1/2 yard of concrete to make up for any variation in thickness. Better to have a little extra then not enough.

We are talking volume here.... so it would depend on the thickness of your concrete slab.

We buy concrete by the cubic metre in Australia and a yard of concrete is usually where you park your car. One cubic metre of concrete will cover 10sqm of the carpark using a concrete slab that is 100mm thick.

Now if an imperial yard is 3 feet.. then one square yard is obviously 3 x 3 = 9 sq feet... but that is a useless measurement in terms of quantifying concrete which requires a volume measurement .. ...

So I would hazard at a guess to say that a "yard of concrete" actually refers to a cubic yard of concrete.... so if your 3 x 3 x 3 foot cube of volumetric concrete is for your carpark... then it will cover 81 square feet of your carpark if it is placed 4 inches thick.

A yard of concrete is normally measured in cubic feet of which there are 27.

To accurately answer your question, there are 9 square feet in a, (square), yard of concrete. But, that statement doesn't account for the depth, or thickness.

A cubic yard of concrete is 27 cubic feet. If you pour it one foot deep it would cover 27 square feet. If you pour it a half foot deep you could cover 54 square feet.

It is figured in cubic feet or cubic yards. 1 cubic yard of concrete is 3 feet high, 3 feet wide and 3 feet deep, so 3x3x3=27 cubic feet.

I'm assuming that the product you have says it will cover a certain number of square feet? As in, one bag covers one hundred square feet, or something along those lines? In that case, divide the square feet by nine. If it's one hundred square feet coverage, then it's just over 11 yards coverage.

27, one yard is 3 ft. 3 x 3 = 9 X 3 = 27, but don't forget to order extra, for a pump, or unknowns. concrete company's have a steep "short load" fee.

First off it should be cubic ft. not sq ft. and the answer would be 27 cubic ft. I feel the answer you are looking for is how much area it will cover at a certain thickness in inches. One cubic yard is 3'x 3' x3'. To pour a slab 4.5" thick I believe one cubic yard would cover 72 sq ft in area. I believe this is correct, but I'm old and I forget stuff. Glenn
