Just about everybody--he allied himself with some, had others killed, appointed replacements for those killed, than used his new allies to kill his origonal allies. nice guy. Then shortly before WW2, he had all his top generals killed. nice guy.

You may be referring to Leon Trotsky.
He was deported from the Soviet Union after a power struggle involving Stalin and later assassinated in Mexico.
