Well, I am "regular, hard-working" but utilities are not taking up most of my pay. Housing does that. You may want to look at the professional you choose, that may be your personal issue.
Food is a big expense, especially since I feed my kids only organic foods. I have cut back on vacations to help pay for the increase, and I assume that many people give up luzuries while times are tough.
I completely agree that we need to stop paying for non-citizens and anyone unwilling but able to work. I think it will get worse before it gets better, with the liberals controlling everything the non-workers will have a better standard of living then the working class.
The only advice I can really give is to invest wisely. I personally invest in real estate, but pick something that you cab understand and invest there. I wish I had invested in oil!

What we are paying for is tax cuts for the rich. We have had to sacrifice so the rich can get richer. Paying for people who don't want to work is a Republican line to keep us from paying attention to where our money is really going; tax breaks for the rich and wars fought so the rich can get richer. Wake up people. Impeach Bush before it gets even worse.

People need to avoid the spending traps of cable TV, cell phones, car-payments and SUV gas payments. Too many people who should be on a budget live beyond their means (and needs).

Vote in conservatives who will drill for oil, build refineries, and decrease regulation on utilities. We would also cut the taxes. Thank big government Republicans and liberals for this. Entitlements are paid by all of us.

Maybe if the government were more disciplined about their spending and lowered taxes, they would have an easier time.

well, you have to learn to control your 'wants' and only focus on your 'needs'.
Try that for a month and see how... :)
