I know satellite is cheaper and has more options, DVR is particurly what I want, but does the quality of service and service charges add up to more than the cost of cable. When speaking to each of the satellite companies they seem slimy, running credit and trying to hide the extra fees. Any advice is appreciated.

I work for a local busines that sells and installs both Dish Network and DirecTV. My advice would be to seek a locally owned business that does the same. (I'm not sure, you may have already done that or you may have called the customer service numbers directly.) Anyway, it usually helps to talk to someone face to face and just ask them specific questions regarding the service and charges. Please keep in mind that just like cellular companies, satellite companies are also selling a service and you are signing a contract. That is why they run credit.

I personally have had DirecTV for 14 years and have rarely had a problem with interrupted service like most cable companies experience. We have TIVO and I don't remember life without it -- highly reccommend it!!!!!

(In case you are wondering, we sell more DirecTV)

Good Luck!

I have been a dish customer for over 10 years and will never go back to cable. Better price, service, and channels. Just went HD and could not be happier. Satellite provides a far superior service than cable. Though i might loose my signal momentarily (it only happens in real bad weather from the south) it come back as good as new and i don;t have to wait for a cable person to show up next week.

As to which service is better, (Dish or Direct), they both have the same channels with some minor exceptions. If you have to have the NFL your only choice is Direct, both systems offer the NFL channel, however Direct has a lock on broadcasting all the NFL games. Not sure how long this contract if for, but i bet Dish is trying to get it. If you want HD, Dish as more channels currently. Direct advertises "More HD channel capability than cable", but that statement is meaningless, as they are speaking of capability not in service.

Good luck on your selection

If you have AT&T get your dish through them on the bundle package and save a few dollars a month for the bundle pack. Overall, providing you don't order all the channels they have to offer, Dish is cheaper. Browse the Dish Network website to get a general idea of what is offered with each package. If you just want the DVR cable has them, or you could go with TiVo/

ive had dish network for about 5 years now. We recently upgraded to the DVR dual reciever and honestly, i dont know how i lived without it b4. it's soooo convenient, and you only need one box on ur main tv and u can record on two tv's. its pretty cool.

Ive never had a problem dealing with dish network. Even tho they outsource their customer service, the people on the other end are usually easy to understand and friendly.

I would suggest you go with an outside sales representative when installing . This is what we did. They are usually more helpful and will be thankful for ur business.

Good Luck!!

I have Dish Network and the DVR and i love both. I rarely ever have a problem and if I do the problem fixes within a few minutes. I had way more problems with cable.

Hi,

I'd say clearly Dish cause:

- cheaper
- more channels and more variety
- awesome picture quality

You might check out http://www.dishnetworkbargains.net - They currently run some promo with free Dish and DVR you might take advantage of. If you have any questions just call 'em up, they are professional and helpful.

Hope that helps.

Best wishes
Mike

I would go with Direct TV myself because I have had a lot of problems with Dish Network in the past. So far I haven't had any problems with Direct.
