You can use a PS1 memory card on a PS2, but it will only save PS1 games. To be able to save PS2 games you will need to use a PS2 memory card..

As an owner of a PS2, I can say for sure that PS1 memory cards are compatible with PS2 consoles. In fact, you need a PS1 memory card to save PS1 game data on a PS2 (You can't use a PS2 memory card for a PS1 game; I tried myself).

Hate to tell you this, but that won't work. However, you can get a 16MB memory card for a PS2 at Wal-Mart for $20. I use one and it works pretty well.
