If you are talking about securing your wireless network, there's a better solution than using network key.

It's called MAC address filter(ing).

First you find out what your MAC(or Physical) address of your computer.

for Pc's, go to start/Run, type cmd, click on OK
in the command prompt, type ipconfig /all,
you will see Physical address: 00:17:f2:ff:fe:80

Log into router's configuration, add physical address in MAC filter list. Make sure the list is set to allow access.

The router will keep track of which computers have the right to connect and you do not have to worry about anyone trying to get in your network. You must add MAC address to router if you want to add computers to your network. Connection to the internet is faster using MAC filter rather than using encryption key.

If you only set the password in Windows, you also have to set it up on your router.

If your Wireless router is fairly new, and you can't understand the Manual, call their Tech Support people.

what kind of router are you using...somewhere in the router interphase, theres a link there to enable the wireless secutiry settings...once its enable, when you try to connect to your wireless, it will ask for a network key (WEP/WPA Key)..
