well depending on the brand it could be very accurate or couldnt be. the answer & first repsonse are really good ones. if it says - then wait a couple days and retest because that sounds like negative even though it was located a little off. if you are having symptoms and have missed your period then chances are good that you may be. alot of tests cant tell until you are at the day you were due or later for some of them. good luck though !!

You can only get pregnant 24-48 hours after you ovulate (but if you had intercourse anywhere from 5 days before you ovulate to a day after, you could get pregnant because sperm can live that long in your body), but you always ovulate the same number of days BEFORE your period starts. Therefore, if you are like most women, your cycles are probably sometimes longer than normal -- meaning that you ovulate later in your cycle. If you have not started your period on the day you expect it, it may be due to pregnancy, or because you are in a longer cycle than normal. In the first case, a pegnancy test should be able to confirm pregnancy, but if it doesn't, you may not be far enough into a pregnancy for the test to detect it through urine. Blood tests are much more accurate, so you could schedule an appointment with your doctor, and she could tell you within hours. Or you could give it another week and test again.

Whether the sign was centered or not, as long as the control window came up properly and the test was read in the proper time frame, it is valid.

That doesn't mean you are absolutely not pregant though. You might have tested too early, even if you waited until you missed your period. If you ovulated late and conceived, you might not have enough hormone in your urine for the HPT to detect.
