My friend's computer has multiple users on it [windows XP]
She had the program Ares on it until she deleted it off her personal user area. However, after she deleted it, whenever she wants to open a program, "not resopnding" appears. This only happens on her "profile" on the computer, since shes hte only one to delete it [everyone esle who has it on their "profile" doesnt have this problem] Any advice on how to fix it and what it is
By the way: Ares is a shareware music program. For more information: http://aresgalaxy.sourceforge.net/

Your friend is makin split ends! Try system restore....if that don't work, then reinstall the programs and/or OS.

She should undelete the program file that she deleted. Hopefully this will restore things to normal. If so, then uninstall the program if she doesn't want it. Don't just hit 'delete.'

Probably wouldn't hurt to run a Registry clean-up program too. There are a lot of these programs around; Norton Utilities has one (among many other utilities in that package). Same with Vcom SystemSuite. You can probably also download a decent Registry cleaner for free.

Update: the answerer below is right: try system restore first.

It doesn't sound like a major issue really....when you say she wants to open a "program" do you mean an actual program or do you mean a data file?

If you have files associated with a particular program and then you remove the program that's configed to open them, windows will not know how to proceed.

For example, I use winamp to play mp3s.....If I just delete my winamp folder every time I open an mp3 file I'll get a little browsing box looking for winamp.....If this is the case, then right click the file and selcet "open with" You can also use the "choose" command and then select a program from the list and click the box "always use this program". Additionally, you can set the default program for each file extension under tools / folder options / file types....you'd have to scroll through all the various file extensions but you can set all of them in there.

She should also try to use the add/remove function to get rid of software....it's much cleaner than just trying to delete the folder.

the easiest way to fix the problem is to just do a system restore to the date before she deleted files.
