Thinking about installing Ikea laminate flooring in my home. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who's had experience installing the product, pros and cons. Thanks!

I've installed it in my GF's house. Not difficult but it will require some tools.

BUT I'm not too keen on it. To me, laminate flooring looks very artificial. All it is pressed board with a high resolution picture of wood on it covered with a durable see-through finish. If you're going to do something like this, you might want to look into engineered wood flooring. It's similar to laminate but has real wood on top.

Another choice is linoleum. Some look pretty cheesy, but there are one or two designs out there that look pretty close to natural stone tiles.

Depending on what room, you might want to tile with either ceramic or natural stone. More work, more expensive but well worth the cost. Just be sure not to "overbuild" for the neighborhood or you won't get your money back when it comes time to selling the house.

I wouldn't do it. It is easy enough to do yourself but so is regular hardwood flooring. Also, for the price you can just about get bamboo flooring from lumber liquidators. Not only is it durable as hell, it is renewable. The poster was right about laminate flooring in that it is pressed crap with a picture of wood on the top. This may seem ok to you until you get any kind of knick or bad spill. Think about knicking that top protective layer and then some time later a small spill happens around that spot. Now what you have is the spill seeping into and discoloring all your hard work. Go with real wood, durable and fixable.

the cost of laminate looks great on the front end, but in three to five years you'll regret it. it doesn't wear as well as engineered wood and has a cheap look to it. it's a different no-no in kitchens and baths. if laminate is what you've got your heart set on go with a respected name like "quick-step".
be sure to follow the installation instructions to the "t" or the warranty will not hold up.

This is just my opinion based on my extensive experience but, Ikea products are ( to put it nicely ) CRAP! Spend your money on a quality product that will actually last & is worth the money. Home Depot & Lowes along with various other compentent home centers will have a huge selection to choose from. Save yourself the aggervation & disappointment...When it comes to Ikea, just say," NO"

laying laminate flooring is not difficult as long as you have a little bit of carpentry sense in you....You will need a table saw and chop saw....You need a hand saw to cut door jams so you can slide laminate under them...one main thing is to leave about 3/8ths of a inch away from wall all around to allow for expansion, than you can cover with 1/4 round molding ......hope this helps
