For a project I have to show connections/influence between Ernest Hemingway and other Modernists. However, the catch is that it can't be in his field, so it has to be like an artist or composer or something that either influenced him or was influenced by him

I'm really stumped. I know there were connections between some poets and painters, but Hemingway doesn't seem to be influenced by any of them. Any I deas are greatly appreciated.

The many women in his life. For instance read
The Snows of Kilimanjaro - Hemingway often had to be pushed by the women in his life to write. He suffered from severe depression which was also an influence on his work. He was also influenced by the common man- and sought a simplistic way of writing that was easily read by all. In that respect, you could say he was influenced by any of the minimalist artists and architects. He was also influenced by the soldiers he came across as a war correspondent. And you can read about how being bipolar influenced him in a book called "Touched by Fire"

Hemingway also came in contact with many modern artists in his time in Paris. Plus, to show connections, I would delve more broadly into what he did with his work. Modernism was about rejecting the "traditional" ways of art and you could show how how Hemingway's prose shows this an connects with other artists of his time, including the cubists, imagists, etc.

He was influnced a lot by locations and his life situations. For example, he was himself an ambulence driver and wrote A Farewell to Arms about an ambulence driver. He had a great love of Spain and wrote For Whom the Bell Tolls about the Spanish Civil War.

I'm sure that he was influenced at least somewhat by the myriad of "drinking buddies" that he had accumulated in his life -- and he had a few of those for sure !!!
