i think it's really cool when fish swim in schools...just looks awesome!

as someone above mentioned, Oscars can be taught to do tricks. Read a story once about someone who taught an Oscar to jump through a hoop! When I had Oscars, they used to let me pet them....kinda cool!

Some cool things that fishes do other than breathe underwater, and blow bubbles is rock moving; try the following:

1. Put a bowl, or a shell in your aquarium; concave side up. The fish will take the rocks and place them in the bowl/shell over a course of time. You can see their progress over some weeks. you can then empty it to do the process again. Or; you can put a divider in your tank, and have two teams of fish race to fill up the bowl/shell.

2. There are Siamese fighting fish that do just that. If you don't want them to get hurt, put a mirror in the tank; it will attack the mirror.

other than those...fish are usually used for decor; you can raise koi then sell them somewhere in California for $25 an inch!

Arrowanas will eat mammals. It really enjoys live rats. That's a fun trick.

My convicts have good parental skills. They nurse and protect their young for about 6 weeks after they're born which is pretty entertaining. They also tag team wrestle with their mates against the others. They're also pretty good at digging caves and landscaping.

My Helodes loaches practice squad based tactical diversions... 3 or 4 will distract a target while others sweep around behind to attack for real. They're super evil... and they have razor blades under their eyes that can pop out when they're frightened as a wicked defense.

My pike will try to kill stuff up to about 3 times the size of its mouth. Sometime's theyll try to eat each other like snakes but just get the other's face stuck about an inch into their mouths.

Oscars, Flower Horns, and Green terrors will wrestle with ping pong balls. Some flowerhorns will compulsivly attack the glass anytime anything is around it (like your fingers) which is pretty entertaining.

Most fish are entertaining in how they eat, kill, or raise babies.
Many of the more entertaining fish are the ones that are viscious killers.

My favorites are the new world cichlids. Pretty much anything from south to north america that's a killing machine with low tolerance for antyhing else in sight.

What length tank? this is the foremost determining element while recommending species/a community. maximum lfs (community fish shops) will order fish for you in case you ask. you will no longer have the comparable success w/ a company comapny. EDIT: then you definately've a desirable length for certainly one of my own favourite communities! 4 emperor tetras (a million male, 3 lady) 3+ khuli loaches 15 or so ghost shrimp a million centerpiece fish. i exploit a paradise gourami in my tank. yet there are a very good style of showier community fish that should paintings properly. you will have your puppy save order some small cichlids. Neolamprologus mulitfasciatus (google it) are desirable for a tank this length and have some truly thrilling and quirky behaviors.

Right before fish die, they will swim barrel rolls. They are trying to fight death and when doing so they end up doing barrel rolls. You can only see this though in like the last hour of a fish's life so it is rare to happen and even rarer to actually see it.

You can teach goldfish, bettas, oscars, parrot cichlids and more to swim through hoops, jump, limbo, eat from your hand, play soccer or football, swim through tunnels or anything else you can imagine.

I have two porcupine puffers that allows me to pet them on the head and back, loves attention, comes up to greet me when i come home, you can teach it to be hand fed, and they'll spit at you to feed them.
