you have to start by getting a permit by passing the the written test. Then to get the bike registered, first get insurance (progressive has good rates), then pay the property taxes, then take insurance card and the tax reciept to the dmv ot get it registered.

The same thing you do for a car plate and license

When asking a question like this it would help a lot if you said which state you were in, because state statutes are not all the same regarding this.

In Wyoming, you need to take the motorcycle written test and road test to have the motorcycle endorsement placed on your driving licence. In lieu of the motorcycle road test, you can take the MSF safety class (which is sponsored by the Dept. of Transportation and costs $15 for the weekend class). If you pass the class, you need not take the road test to obtain the motorcycle endorsement.

After you have the endorsement, you need to obtain liability insurance for your motorcycle. With proof of this liability insurance, you then go to the county courthouse and pay the fee for your licence tags.

After that, you ride.
